THING TO DO ON THE
ISLAND
The first activity is to
enjoy the sea. Not only from the few beaches which can be fairly
crowded during high season, but also from the rocks, many of which
are flat and easy to reach. Take advantage of the daily boat trips
in groups or hire boats or motorboats to reach the less crowded
bays, the sheltered caves or simply to go round the island to see
ravines and almost certainly dolphins and turtles.
Go
deep-sea diving and in just one week you can obtain your underwater
licence from one of the many diving schools
available.
Snorkeling in warm, fairly shallow water can be
fun with the chance to see amazing sea beds and shoals of coloured
fish.
Try fishing with professional fishermen either from a
hired fishing boat or from the shore - dinner is nearly always
guaranteed!
To the west, where the vast forest areas are
coloured the famous Mediterranean green, you can stroll, jog, walk
or bike. Splendid horses are also available in the local stables for
wonderfully scenic horse rides.
For the more laid-back, try
the island's excellent restaurants serving the best fish in the
world, be tempted by the delicious patisserie's offering an
assortment of ricotta-based Sicilian cakes or visit the ice-cream
parlours for a fresh fruit sorbet.
There's no sweeter way to
finish a long day at the sea.
In the heart of the summer,
those in search of nightlife can visit the two discos and the
open-air cinema.
